Sandburg Men Hold Off IVCC Behind 61% Shooting Night

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team shot 61 percent from the floor and held on the beat Illinois Valley 74-69 on Thursday night in an Arrowhead Conference matchup.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers (12-7, 1-1) led 39-27 at halftime, but five 3-pointers and a three-point play helped Illinois Valley get its deficit down to 47-46 with 13:00 left.
• Sandburg responded with a 9-0 run in the next 65 seconds, getting a Griffin Ronnebeck (East Moline, Ill./United Township) trey, back-to-back buckets from Myles Estrada (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) and a Connor Barnett (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) jumper to go up 56-46.
• Clinging to a 72-69 lead in the closing seconds, the Chargers broke the Eagles full-court press and Estrada fed Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) for a breakaway dunk to seal the victory.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Agot finished with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, led the Chargers with four assists and had two of Sandburg’s eight steals.

SAUK VALLEY GAME MOVED TO MONDAY
The Chargers’ next game, scheduled for Tuesday vs. Sauk Valley, has been moved up a day to 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Sandburg women’s team also will play the Skyhawks on Monday, with that game starting at 5:30 p.m.
